Nap Campaign: Map Moves 29th March 1808

Overview

To the north west Grouchy continues to pursue the retreating allies. The Dutch (orange 1) fail to rally and only do so on reaching their capital which they have now done. The Brunswickers and Hanoverians are aiming to link up with the British who are still in the process of assembling in port.

Another Brunswick brigade (black 1) has been transported from their main island base and are ready to join the fight.

The result of the most recent action (battle of the Tourane Peninsular) at the bottom left. Best (yellow 4) intends to link up with the rest of the Hanoverians. Chasse's Dutch/Belgians (Orange 2) are routing pursued by D'Erlon (blue 6).

To the north west Napoleon continues to advance into Prussia. Green 1, 2 and 3 (Blucher is now in 2) are the scattered forces from the Battle of Grissburg. Green 5 is Ziethen with most of 1st Corps having been recalled to Prussia. There is a potential problem looming here for Napoleon. Such has been the speed of his advance it could leave his supply lines vulnerable with Ziethen potentially posing that threat.

To the south west Soult (blue 5) slowly advances towards Wellington. The latter falls back into Portugal with the only hope of reinforcements being the Spanish division (grey 3). A significant number of British troops are still at sea and will not arrive for 2 or 3 days.

There is a clash though resulting in the first skirmish game of the campaign. In the top right of the map, 3 Swiss battalions destined to reinforce 6th Corps have been intercepted by a band of Spanish Guerillas. This will be the first time I have played a skirmish game in 6mm and currently casting around my collection of skirmish rules to ascertain what I believe will be the most suitable. I will hopefully have that sorted soon with the AAR posted shortly after.

NEXT: Skirmish at Rock Valley

  1. Very interesting to see how the forces are interacting together, which I personally find fascinating. Looking forward to reading the skirmish AAR.
