Plans for 2025

It is time to plan the year ahead, or at least have an idea of what I intend to do!

As in previous years I will break down my plans into Battles, Campaigns, Painting/Modelling.

BATTLES

ANCIENTS:

Early Imperial Roman: 9th Legion v Ancient British Mona.

Punic Wars: Battle of Trebia.

ECW:

TBC. Braddock Down is a possibility but I have yet to settle on a particular battle. It is possible that ECW will be a period not covered this year.

NAPOLEONIC:

Peninsular War project - Battle of Busaco 27th September 1810.

ACW:

Cross Keys 8th June 1862.

PONY WARS:

A priority this year now that all figures and terrain have been completed.

COLONIAL:

Zulu Wars - Rorkes Drift

WW2:

Market Garden: Battle in the Woods from the Rapid Fire scenario book involving the UK Paras.

Operation Compass: Attack on the Maletti Group. This is a scenario from a mini-campaign acquired from Wargames Vault.

It is unlikely I will have time to play both WW2 games but hopefully one will see the tabletop.

CAMPAIGNS

ANCIENTS:

Roman invasion of Britain. The attack on Mona by the 9th Legion will likely see the conclusion of this campaign.

NAPOLEONIC:

Warplan 5/5 campaign to continue. The French are in full retreat on all 3 fronts. Map moves have yet to be completed.
The above wording was copied and pasted from last year's plans. It has been far too long since I gave this campaign any attention so will be a priority for this year. Particularly as no Napoleonics were played last year. A rarity for me!

WW2 NAVAL:

The "Defending the Malay Barrier" campaign will be another priority. There are two more actions to be played completing campaign turn 2. I intend to play both.

PAINTING/MODELLING

Targets for the year:

I shall be aiming for 2,000 x 6mm figures painted which appears to be my new average. Unfortunately my planned 3,000 was rarely achieved although in my defence, aircraft, ships and terrain take up plenty of time. My targets:

300 x Punic Wars (Trebia)
1,700 miscellaneous!

Normally I would add more periods but unusually for me, all planned games are now ready to go. In the absence of any new project I will dip in to various periods as the mood takes me with a view to reducing the unpainted lead pile.

Refurbish river boards. Basically making the rivers more realistic.

As with the figures, all terrain is now prepped for the games planned so will aim to reduce the number of unpainted buildings and terrain pieces.

More WW2 ships and aircraft will be painted.

And finally, my collections and projects list has been updated.

A happy new year to everyone and have a great wargaming year.

  1. Well I look forward to seeing how you get on with these plans Jon, especially the Warplan 5/5 campaign and some WWII action too. I gave up on plans years ago as I simply failed to achieve anything remotely close to them year after year. I think the wargames butterlfly in me was too strong! Nowadays I just go with what takes my fancy at any given moment in time, which works for me.

    1. I know what you mean about plans Steve. It helps me focus a little although most of the periods that interest me are covered so whatever the flavour of the moment is at any given time tends to be in the plans somewhere.

  3. Jon, it's always fun stopping in for your posts, such epic tale spinning on the table. Watching the 5x5 games unfold is fun and the WW2 battles are awesome.
