NORTH WEST

| Hill pauses with the pursuit of the French Army allowing British reinforcements to catch up. He will soon have to make a decision as to whether he should continue as the Dutch want or to await the arrival of Colville's 4th Division. |
NORTH EAST

| Napoleon (blue 1) continues to join the Army of the West leaving the rearguard holding river crossings. As yet the Prussians have held off from engaging. |
SOUTH
 |
| Morillo follows Soult (blue 6) hoping for better luck next time. A Portuguese brigade (brown 3) is nearby but its orders are to join Wellington not Morillo. |

| The French cavalry element attached to the 4th Corps has retreated further (blue 7) with British cavalry keeping a watchful eye (red 11). Gerard with what is left of the 4th Corps (blue 4) has occupied a medieval castle clearly intended to be a last stand but one in which Wellington is delayed reinforcing the northern armies and also inflicting maximum casualties on the Anglo/Portuguese force. The last stand of the 4th will go down in French history! It is now nightfall on 23rd April and action will commence in the following morning. This then is the setting for the next battle, The Siege of Opatow Castle. The first castle assault of the campaign. |
Great operational setup, Jon! Map campaigns really shine when they produce unique scenarios like this—a French last stand inside a medieval castle is top class.

DeleteSoem interesting decisions to be made for both sides there Jon. Does 'Boney' wait whilst the Prussians are static, or try to defeat them in detail? I'm certainly looking forward to the storming of the castle, which should look great but I am worried for the Allies I must admit!

DeleteSome tough decisions for the French but they still seem to have hope in the north if Wellington can be delayed long enough or attritted enough in the south.
